2016 has been an interesting year, especially within the digital realm. Concerns for the future have become a large talking point globally, and heartfelt, emotion-driven posts about welfare, the government, and the climate have become the norm. But it hasn’t all been doom and gloom – digital has made some exciting breakthroughs that have helped to take the edge off an otherwise uncertain year.

While there was political unrest following referendums and elections across the globe, the 90’s made a come back with Pókemon Go, and nostalgic gamers filled the parks and hit the pavements in major cities everywhere.

Outlined in Google’s ‘Year In Search 2016’ the American election, Brexit, and Rio Olympics were among many events that inspired the public to create rich digital content. And we thank them for it!

This year we were also introduced to the amazing reusable rocket by SpaceX. We have to admit, we could only stare in amazement and ask ourselves ‘how is that even possible?’

Elon Musk has been a busy man, as he also debuted Tesla’s new line of solar powered roof tiles. Stronger than ordinary tiles (Woop) and they power your house (Double woop) – what more could you want!

VR has been the standout star of gaming in 2016. It remains to be seen how long it will last, but with VR headsets hitting the top of Christmas wish lists, it’ll be something to look out for in 2017.

And let’s not forget about the advances this year in robotics and AI. None more innovative than the development of an ingestible origami robot. Our favourite sci-fi movies are almost real!

So, 2016 has been eventful! A year of loss. A year of change. But also a year of innovation, and exciting things are coming…
